Responds to fire alarms, natural gas leaks, wildland fires and fights fire requiring performance of firefighting tasks of moderate difficulty involving structures, equipment, facilities; crashed, burning aircraft; fuel, chemical, brush fires.
Employee performs maintenance, operational, housekeeping, emergency, and standby duties.
Operates radios, fire reporting systems, and computer modem for hazardous material information and performs maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
The employee is a first responder to medical emergencies and performs emergency medical procedures that are noninvasive.
Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Pre-Appointment physical required and annually thereafter.
Position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a current, valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle up to one ton.
This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
This position requires the employee to work rotating shifts and 106 hours biweekly/53-hour workweek.
This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines.
This position requires the employee to maintain a current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) card.
This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies.
This position is mission essential in support of unscheduled installation training missions.
This position is an inclement weather position.

Specialized
Experience:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) working as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property; 2) respond to fires using firefighting and rescue techniques, equipment and extinguishing agents utilizing trained knowledge of firefighter theory and tools; AND 3) respond to contaminated and/or hazardous areas requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks to include:
building ventilation, fire extinguishing, emergency medical service(s) (EMS) apparatus operation, protective performance techniques as needed in the event to protect life and property.
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system at the Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Emergency Medical Technician.
NOTE:
This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
Incumbent is required to sign a Department of the Army (DA) Form 5019-R, Condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program, or a Memorandum of Understanding.
